ZOHAR (Sepher ha-). The Book of Splendour. Esoteric Doctrine of the Israelites. Paris, Ernest Leroux, 1906–1911. 6 in-8 volumes, blue half-maroquin with corner pieces, gilt head, cover (contemporary binding). The first complete French translation of the Zohar, compiled and annotated by Jean de Pauly, and published under the supervision of Émile Lafuma-Giraud. The Zohar is the fundamental text of Kabbalah, the mystical and esoteric tradition of Judaism, composed at the end of the 13th century. Printed in a run of 852 numbered copies; this is one of 750 on chiffon vellum. Spine slightly faded; foxing on two plates of reproductions. Caillet, no. 11599 – Scholem, no. 899.
