Description
HOMER. Όδύσσεια. Munich, Bremer Presse, 1924. In-4, hardback in Bradel-style vellum, front cover and spine decorated with a gold fillet and the Greek title calligraphed in brown ink, waxed head, untrimmed (contemporary binding). A magnificent edition of the Odyssey, printed entirely in Greek, apart from the endnotes in Latin. The text was edited by the great German philologist Eduard Schwartz.
This is the sixteenth volume published by Bremer Presse, following the Iliad in 1923. These private presses, modelled on the Doves Press in London, were active from 1911 to 1934, first in Bremen, then in Bad Tölz and Munich.
A print run of 615 numbered copies on J. W. Zanders laid paper (no. 205).
Dark stains on the edges of the covers.
