Description
PASQUIER (Étienne). *Les Recherches de la France*. Printed in Orléans, and sold in Paris by Guillaume de Luyne, 1665. Folio, grained sheepskin, decorated spine, marbled edges (contemporary binding). Definitive edition, featuring a frontispiece portrait engraved by Jaspar Isaac.
Étienne Pasquier (1529–1615) ‘ranks among the very foremost of the great prose writers who shaped the French language’s capacity for historical and political analysis and the articulation of ideas’ (Luce Giard). The nine volumes of his *Recherches de la France* were originally published between 1560 and 1611.

Worn edges and corners, slight wear to the cover, interior discoloured with a few scattered pinholes. The 36 folios of the index are bound at the end of the introductory sections.
