Description
PERFORMANCES staged at Fontainebleau during Their Majesties’ stay in the year 1754. Paris, Ballard, n.d. [1754]. In-4, marbled cloth, plain spine, gilt edges (later binding). First edition. This collection of plays performed in 1754 for the King’s ‘Menus-Plaisirs’ contains the following in full: Fragments performed before the King at Fontainebleau (three ballets to music by Rameau: *La Naissance d’Osiris*, *Les Incas du Pérou* and *Pigmalion*); *Thésée*, a tragedy by Quinault and Lully; *Anacréon*, a heroic ballet by Rameau; *Daphnis et Alcimadure*, a Languedoc pastoral by Mondonville; Alceste, or the Triumph of Alcides, a tragedy by Quinault and Lully; Thetis and Peleus, a tragedy by Fontenelle. These works are accompanied by the Journal of the performances given in 1754 at the Royal Theatre of Fontainebleau. Binding slightly rubbed, with slight foxing.
