Description
[PSALMS]. Appended to this work is a fourfold Psalter, namely the Hebrew version, the Hebrew text in the translation by St Jerome, the Greek version, and the Latin Vulgate edition of unknown authorship. [Basel, Johann Froben, 1516]. Folio, brown half-sowhide, title and fleurons cold-stamped on the upper edge and spine, smooth edges (modern binding). An appendix to the eighth volume of the works of St Jerome, presented as a separate volume. It contains a synoptic edition of the Psalms, printed in four columns in Hebrew, Greek and two Latin versions, preceded by a prefatory letter by Bruno Amerbach.
A copy belonging to Olivier de Lyon (died 1522), theologian, rector and grand master of the Royal College of Navarre, bearing this 16th-century handwritten note at the end of the text: Ex dono deffuncti bonæ memoriæ mag[iste]ri Oliverii de Lyon… Annotations and deletions in the same hand on 2 pp.
Extensive restoration sparing the text on the title page (A1), repair to the upper corner of ff. A2 to C2 and a few minor repairs, again sparing the text; wormholes running through the volume; water stains on the final leaves.
