Description
RULAND (Martin). *Lexicon alchemiæ sive dictionarium alchemisticum*. Frankfurt, J. A. Endter, 1661. – LANGE (Christian). *Miscellanea curiosa medica, annexa disputatione de morbillis*. Leipzig, T. M. Götze, 1669. Two works in one small quarto volume, fawn sheepskin, decorated spine, marbled edges (contemporary binding). A valuable alchemical dictionary, reprinted identically to the original 1612 edition. ‘This lexicon is very comprehensive, less mystical and more practical than some later ones. Useful in explaining early terminology’ (Bolton).
‘A very rare work by this disciple of Paracelsus, who was physician to Emperor Rudolf II and Count Palatine Philip Louis. This dictionary, as Dorbon notes regarding the 1612 edition, is at the same time a commentary on the works of Paracelsus; it is written in Latin and German”.
The second edition of Christian Lange’s *Miscellanea curiosa medica* has been bound together with it.
The upper cap has been previously restored; there are small areas of skin wear on the covers, foxing and heavily browned pages in both volumes.
Ruland (1612 ed.): Duveen, 520 – Ferguson, II, 302 – Bolton, I, 1041 – Sudhoff, no. 291 – Dorbon, no. 4271.
