Description
[PARISH CHARITY]. General Regulations of the Charity Society of the Parish of Saint-Eustache in Paris. Paris, C. L. Thiboust, 1724. In-12, brown calfskin, decorated spine (contemporary binding). First edition of these regulations approved by Cardinal de Noailles.
This valuable text sets out in minute detail the arrangements for assisting the ‘ashamed poor’ (the ruined burghers and artisans of the Les Halles district who did not dare to beg in public), as well as the provision of free education for needy children.
