Description
ALAMANNI (Luigi). Tuscan works. Venice, Peter Schoeffer for the heirs of Lucantonio Giunta, 1542. 2 volumes in one in-8, soft vellum with covers, traces of binding (contemporary binding). Second and best edition. The first, published in 1532 by the same publisher, consisted of a single volume.
It was elegantly printed in italics by Peter Schoeffer, the second son of Gutenberg's associate, for the Giunta of Venice, whose typographical mark adorns the titles and the verso of the last leaf.
The Florentine poet Luigi Alamanni (1495-1556) is considered to have introduced epigrams into Italian poetry. In the 16th century, he was one of the best examples of the influence of Italian culture in Europe, and was greatly admired by the poets of the Pléiade.
Faint angular wetness.
Camerini, n°465 - BM STC, Italian, p. 12 - Gamba, 15.
