CANISIUS (Petrus). Сумма наука христïанскѡга... [Summa doctrinæ christianæ]. S.l.n.n. [Rome, Domenico Basa], 1583. In-4, soft vellum (contemporary binding). Important and rare edition in Slavonic of the catechism of Canisius, printed with the elegant Cyrillic characters engraved by Robert Granjon, known as litteræ servianæ. Robert Granjon moved to Rome in 1577, where he worked on the production of Oriental typefaces - Armenian, Syriac, Cyrillic and Arabic - for the books of Catholic missionaries, collaborating with Domenico Basa, director of the Stamperia Vaticana, and Giambattista Raimondi, head of the Stamperia Medicea Orientale, and thus contributing to the first editions printed in certain Oriental languages. A full-page copper-engraved Crucifixion is printed on the verso of the title. Light spotting, stamp scratched off title, small marginal worm gallery at foot of last six leaves, small loss to upper spine (detached), lower spine renewed.
