Description
CHARLES VIII. Document signed by Charles VIII, King of France (1470-1498) for the bailiwick of Caen, concerning the seizure of the property of a counterfeiter. Manuscript on vellum of one folio (40 x 22 cm), with a large royal seal measuring approximately 10 cm. Act of Charles VIII, for the bailliage of Caen, concerning the seizure of the goods of a counterfeiter, countersigned on the back by Thomas Bohier (1460-1524), builder of the château of Chenonceau. It concerns the King's transfer of movable and immovable property to his "dear and beloved servant Maistre Richart de Boilambert for consideration and recognition of good and pleasant services", resulting from the seizure of the property of Guillaume Tubeuf, executed for having "made and forged counterfeit money and bad aloy and so much so that by these descriptses he was executed by justice and his said property declared to us confiscated". This is a rare royal document still in private hands, as almost all of them are in public ownership and in very good condition.
