Description
ESCHYLE, SOPHOCLE and EURIPIDE. Tragœdiæ selectæ, cum duplici interpretatione latina. S.l. [Geneva], Henri Estienne, 1567. 3 parts in one volume in-16, fawn morocco, gilt fillet and palmettes border, small irons in the spandrels, coat of arms in the centre, smooth spine decorated in the same way, gilt edges, traces of binding (Early 17th century binding). Pocket edition published in Geneva by Henri II Estienne, "typographer to Ulrich Fugger", bringing together eight Greek tragedies, each accompanied, with the exception of the last, by two Latin translations, one in prose, the other in verse. A prize book in a rich binding with the coat of arms of Antoine de Lenoncourt (1559-1636), prior of Lay, abbot of Beaupré, grand chancellor of the abbey of Remiremont and primate of Lorraine from 1606 to 1636. He paid for the distribution of prizes at the University of Pont-à-Mousson in 1608, 1619 and 1623. Binding a little rubbed, slight damage to corners, a few worm spots.
