Ibid, 1573. 2 parts in one folio volume, limp vellum, smooth spine, mottled edges (contemporary binding). First edition of this important history of Lyon, which is one of Antoine Gryphe's finest impressions. The title is adorned with a remarkable woodcut frame (reproduced in Baudrier). Guillaume Paradin (1510-1590), a humanist and Burgundian canon from Cuiseaux, was also the author of a famous Histoire de nostre temps (1550) and a Chronique de Savoye (1552). He drew extensively on Claude Bellièvre's manuscript Lugdunum priscum to write this work. The work by Claude de Rubys on the privileges granted to the Lyonnais by the kings of France, in its first printing, follows, as it should. Some foxing and spotting, last leaf torn and rebound.
