Description
LUCRECE. De rerum natura libros sex. Paris, Frédéric Léonard, 1680. In-4, stamped stiff vellum, double framed with cold fillets with fleurons at the corners and a large diamond medallion in the centre, spine decorated with cold corded fillets, speckled edges (Dutch binding of the period). Learned edition, published by Michel Dufay, of Lucretius' philosophical poem. It belongs to the collection ad usum Delphini (for the use of the Dauphin), directed by the Duc de Montausier, governor of the Dauphin son of Louis XIV, and the scholar Pierre-Daniel Huet, who called on the best specialists to prepare the texts, commentaries and notes. 65 volumes were published in this illustrious collection between 1674 and 1698.
