Paris, Veuve de Nicolas Buon, 1631. 2 volumes in-folio, red morocco, double framed with three gilt fillets, spine decorated, gilt edges (period binding). First edition of this important Histoire de France, in which various works by Pierre Matthieu (1563-1621), the king's historiographer, have been recast, especially valuable for the study of the reign of Henri IV, to which the entire second volume is devoted. The work was published after Pierre Matthieu's death by his son Jean-Baptiste, who added a third part on the reign of Louis XIII.
The title is adorned with a large vignette by Léonard Gaultier.
A superb copy with wide margins in contemporary red morocco.
