[JANSENISM]. [BONNAIRE (Louis de)]. Poésies sur la constitution Unigenitus, collected by the Chevalier de G***. Villefranche [Amsterdam], Philalète Belhumeur, 1724. 2 volumes in-12, fawn calf, coats of arms in the centre, spines decorated, red edges (Bindings of the period). First edition of this Jansenist-inspired satirical collection. It contains in particular the Essai du nouveau conte de ma mère l'Oye, ou les Enluminures du jeu de la Constitution, by Abbé Louis de Bonnaire, which occupies pp. 73 to 317 of the second volume. The work contains a fine repeated frontispiece, 5 pp. of engraved music and 2 unsigned plates outside the text, one of which is a fold-out plate of the Jeu de la Constitution. A copy bearing the arms of the great financier Samuel Bernard (1651-1739), Comte de Coubert, who was the leading banker in the kingdom, lending considerable funds to Louis XIV and then to Louis XV.
