Description
[JONES (Inigo)]. KENT (William). The Designs of Inigo Jones, consisting of plans and elevations for publick and private buildings. S.l.n.n. [London], 1727. 2 volumes in an in-folio volume, fawn calf, gilt fleuron lace, ornate spine, gilt edges (English period binding). First edition of this superb work on the work of the British architect Inigo Jones (1573-1652), a disciple of Andrea Palladio who was the main promoter of Palladianism in England.
The work, published by William Kent, is illustrated with an allegorical frontispiece designed by him and engraved by Bernard Baron, and 97 plates of architectural elevations, plans and details engraved in etching by Hendrik Hulsbergh, Pierre Fourdrinier and others after drawings by Henry Flitcroft and William Kent.
The engravings are numbered from 1 to 73 in the first volume and from 1 to 63 in the second, as the 24 double-page plates count as two and the 5 folding plates as four.
