MARTÍNEZ DE ESPINAR (Alonso). Arte de ballestería, y montería, escrita con método, para escusar la fatiga, que ocasiona la ignorancia. Madrid, Antonio Marín, 1761. In-4, ivory vellum, smooth spine, natural edges (Period Spanish binding). Third edition of one of the main Spanish hunting treatises of the Golden Age. It is illustrated with 5 plates etched by Juan Fernando Palomino after those in the original edition, by the Flemish artist Juan de Noort. Written by Alonso Martínez de Espinar (1588-1682), crossbowman to King Philip IV, the work was first published in Madrid in 1644 and republished in Naples in 1739. "Classic on Spanish hunting which was written at the period when the crossbow was given way to the musket. The work is of interest to falconers and the last of the three books into which it is divided contains fifteen chapters on falcons" (Schwerdt). The body of the book partially unstuck.
