Description
IMPERIAL ALMANACH, for the year MDCCXIII. Paris, Testu, [1813]. In-8, white vellum, multiple fillets and scrolls framed, coat of arms painted on the first cover and numeral NML painted on the second, decorated smooth spine, inner lace, pink silk lining and endpapers, gilt edges (Period binding). Last year of publication under the title Almanach impérial, which took over from Almanach royal in 1814. A precious copy in gilt vellum with the painted arms of Marie-Louise of Austria (1791-1847), Empress of the French for just over a year when this almanac was published. The second cover is decorated with the cipher of Napoleon and his second wife, traced in garlands of painted flowers. Bindings with the coat of arms of Empress Marie-Louise "are very rare, most of her library having been composed late, when she became Duchess of Parma" (Anne Lamort, Collection Gérard Souham, 2008, no. 37, for a red morocco binding with gilt coat of arms). Fresh binding, although slightly dusty. Interior browned.
