BARBAY (Pierre). Commentarius in Aristotelis Physicam. Paris, Georges & Louis Josse, 1690. 2 volumes in-12, speckled calf, spine decorated, spotted edges (Binding of the period). Fifth enlarged edition of this commentary on Aristotle's Physics illustrated with woodcut figures and diagrams in the text. The Jesuit Pierre Barbay, born in Abbeville and died in 1664, taught philosophy at the Collège de Beauvais for some fifteen years. His textbooks were published posthumously by his pupils. They form a complete course in Aristotelian philosophy in the tradition of medieval scholastic teaching.
