[COPERNIC (Nicolas)]. MEGERLIN (Peter). Systema mundi copernicanum, argumentis invictis demonstratum, et conciliatum theologiæ. Amsterdam, Henr. Wetstein, 1682. In-12, brown basane, spine decorated, spotted edges (contemporary binding). Extremely rare first edition of this defence of the Copernican theory and its conformity with Christian theology. The volume is illustrated with two figures in the text and three plates outside the text, two of which are fold-outs. Peter Megelin (1623-1686) was professor of mathematics at the University of Basel, but was also known as an astrologer. Missing spine ends, one split jaw, epidermis on boards, corners worn, a few stains and foxing.
