Description
GODIN (Louis). Connoissance des temps pour l'année 1733, au méridien de Paris. Paris, Imprimerie royale, 1733. In-12, red morocco, gilt roulette, coat of arms in the centre, spine decorated, inner lace, gilt edges (period binding). First edition of this issue of an astronomical and navigational directory published by the Royal Academy of Sciences from 1679 to 1789. Louis Godin was its editor from 1730 to 1734.
The volume contains a frontispiece and a map of the moon engraved by Philippe Simonneau, as well as a map of France after Guillaume Delisle.
A red morocco copy bearing the arms of the Count of Toulouse.
Louis-Alexandre de Bourbon (1678-1737), the last of the legitimate children of Louis XIV and the Marquise de Montespan, was admiral of France from 1683 (he was five years old) until his death and head of the Conseil de Marine during the Regency.
