BOERHAAVE (Herman). Elemens de chymie. The Hague, J. Neaulme, 1748. 2 volumes in-12, marbled calf, framed with a cold fillet, spines decorated, red edges (Binding of the period). First edition of Jean Allamand's French translation of the work by the Dutch botanist, physician and chemist Boerhaave, in which he transcribed the essential elements of the famous lessons he taught at the University of Leiden.
The Elements is divided into two main parts: the first traces the history of chemistry, while the second presents the bodies studied and the instruments - fire, water, air, earth and dissolvers (called "menstrui") - used to carry out chemical operations.
