[FRÉART DE CHAMBRAY (Roland). Parallèle de l'architecture antique et de la moderne, contenant les profils des plus beaux édifices de Rome comparés avec les dix principaux autheurs qui ont écrit des cinq ordres... Second edition, augmented with the pedestals of each order. Paris, Claude Jombert, Jean and Joseph Barbou, s.d. [between 1718 and 1732]. In-folio, marbled calf, gilt fillet, gilt lions at the corners, ornate spine, red edges (Binding of the period). New edition of this fine work, entirely engraved, illustrated with an ornate title and 48 full-page architectural plates by Charles Errard. Only the preface has been typeset. This collection of the most beautiful antique and modern orders for the use of architects was commissioned from Fréart de Chambray (1606-1676) by his cousin François Sublet de Noyers when he was Superintendent of Buildings, and first published in Paris by Edme Martin in 1650.
