Description
LACLOS (Pierre Choderlos de). Les Liaisons dangereuses. Letters collected in a society, and published for the instruction of some others. London [Paris], s.n., 1796 [ca. 1812]. 2 volumes in-8, blond calf, gilt fillet and garland, smooth spine decorated with a gilt Psyche iron, black title and appendix, inner lace, gilt edges (Period binding). Second illustrated edition, sought after for the beauty of its intaglio engravings, namely 15 figures outside the text, including two frontispieces, by Monnet, Mlle Gérard and Fragonard fils, interpreted by Bacquoy, Duplessi-Bertaux, Godefroy, Langlois, Lemire, Lingée, Masquelier, Patas, Pauquet, Du Préel, Simonet and Trière. The copy comes from the reprint executed around 1812 and most of the figures have the RpD mark (i.e. retouched by Delvaux). A very fine copy, finely bound in the period and remarkably well preserved.
