Description
TERNAUX (Mortimer). Histoire de la Terreur, 1792-1794, d'après des documents authentiques et inédits. Paris, Michel Lévy, 1862-1881. 8 volumes in-8, fawn half-calf, spine decorated with gilt fillets, speckled edges (period binding). First edition, complete with the eighth volume published posthumously twelve years after the others. A copy by Sainte-Beuve (1804-1869), with an autograph dispatch signed by the author in the first volume. It was bound shortly after the sale of the Sainte-Beuve library (1870, no. 615), where it is described in seven paperback volumes. The eighth volume was enclosed at the time of publication with a tomonnage of a different colour.
