Paris, Imprimerie royale, 1740, in-4, fawn calf, spine decorated, red edges (period binding). First edition of this important work by Jacques Cassini (1677-1756), who was the first to draw up tables of the satellites of Saturn.
It is illustrated with 5 folding plates engraved by Simonneau.
Copy of Abraham-Hyacinthe Anquetil-Duperron (1731-1805), with handwritten bookplate on the title. Having travelled through India from 1754 to 1762, he was the first French Orientalist, translated the Zend-Avesta, the sacred book of the Parsis, and published several works on India.
