PREMIER VOYAGE: Relation des voyages entrepris par ordre de Sa Majesté Britannique pour faire des Découvertes dans l'Hémisphère Méridional, et successivement exécutés par le Commodore Byron, le Capitaine Carteret, le Capitaine Wallis & le Capitaine Cook, dans les Vaisseaux le Dauphin, le Swallow & l'Endeavour: rédigée d'après les Journaux tenus par les différents Commandants & les Papiers de M. Cook dans l'hémisphère austral et autour du monde sur la géographie, l'histoire naturelle et la philosophie morale", includes 1 table and 1 map. First French edition of Cook's second voyage, translated by Suard. A very fine copy despite the following defects: 3 corners with leather missing, small tear to a lower headpiece, spotting to volume 5, small wormholes in the margin of volume 5 at the end of the volume, worm gallery in the margin of the first 6 leaves of volume 2, dampstaining at the head of volume 4 mainly affecting the plates and a few leaves, as is often the case, the 2 leaves of advice to the binder are missing. - TROISIÈME VOYAGE: Cook's third voyage, or voyage to the Pacific Ocean, ordered by the King of England to make discoveries in the northern hemisphere...Paris, Hôtel de Thou, 1785. 4 volumes, frontispiece (death of Captain Cook) and 87 plates (maps, scenes, portraits...), 1 folding table (Appendix n°2). First edition of the French translation, a complete copy including the 2 notices to the binder. Minor damage to 2 upper headpieces, leather missing from upper cut and first cover of volume 1 and from lower cut of volume 3, covers slightly rubbed, spotting on frontispiece and some plates of volume 1 and slightly browned quires, rare brown spots in volume 3. A very good copy. A very fine set.
