Parma, Dalla Stamperia Reale, 1780. 2 volumes in one in-4, contemporary porphyry calf, framed with triple gilt fillet on the boards, spine ribbed and ornamented, inner gilt border and edges, corners slightly dulled, upper edge split, beginning of a split on the lower edge, wide margins - [5 ff.], LXIV pp. (fol. The German painter Mengs divided his time between his native Dresden, where he was first court painter, and Rome, where he died in 1799. For several years, he was also attached to the court of Charles III of Spain, to whom he suggested drawing up an inventory of the royal collections so that they could then be brought together in a single gallery, thus setting in motion what was to become the Prado Museum in the 19th century. In addition to his pictorial work, he left a large number of writings collected by the Chevalier d'Azzara, State Councillor to the King of Spain.
