The mosaic decoration continues on the spine and on the second plate, gilt titling, double boards decorated with a wide red morocco listel and a thin water green morocco listel underlined by a gilt fillet, chrome green morocco listel at the foot with a small return on the sides, underlined by a palladium fillet, green moire endpapers, double endpapers, covers and spine preserved, gilt edges on witnesses, shaped and bordered slipcase (rel. Illustrated with 32 copper engravings in colour by Daragnès (1 frontispiece, 1 title vignette, 10 pll. h-t, 11 banderols, 9 culs-de-lampe), 7 woodcut initials in colour and numerous small monochrome decorative woodcuts. Edition of 152 copies on van Gelder Zonen paper, including 120 for members, this one for Mr Maurice Bussillet, President of the said Society. Enriched copy:
1/ - 3 original compositions signed by Daragnès: original watercolour of the plate on page 75 (Suzanne lying face down, 20 x 14.5 cm) - original watercolour of the banner on page 203 (Suzanne lying writing, with 2 coloured birds in the background, 11 x 10 cm) - gouache and oil on strong paper, the subject on page 75 treated differently, Suzanne lying seen from the front (26.9 x 20.2 cm).
2/ - 2 letters to M. Bussillet: - a/ - 4 pp. in-8 on Émile-Paul Frères letterhead (18/01/1927). It seems that the publishing contract has not yet been completely finalised, but he gives many details about the production of Suzanne: format, paper he has had specially made, typefaces he has just ordered, details about the production of the copperplates, possible publication date, etc. b/ - 2 leaves, in-8 (15/12/1927). He tells him of his budgetary problems in completing "Suzanne". Can he convince the committee to allow for an overrun despite the signed contract?
3/ - Illustrated menu for the banquet of the Cercle Lyonnais du Livre, 17/12/1928 (at Mère Fillioux's in Lyon) with an offprint of the menu illustration with a nude Suzanne engraved in the centre with this caption "pour Maurice Bussillet en souvenir de son ami Daragnès" with EAS "à Maurice Bussillet en souvenir affectueux d'une collaboration amicale. Daragnès, Suzanne's lover and also of the Pacific".
4/ - Suite of crossed-out copperplates, in a folio binding in dark green half-maroquin with bands, underlined with gilt fillets, smooth spine titled in gilt lettering, first flyleaf with embedded copperplate (the one drawn for Bussillet from the menu decoration). A total of 32 proofs plus the copperplate for Bussillet.
One of Daragnès's flagship productions, served by a great bookbinder.
