Hensbergio, Vincentio [Hensbergh, Vincent]. - Viridarium Marianum variis rosariorum,exercitiorum, exemplorumq[ue]plantationibus peramoenum. in gratiam et usum cultorum deiparae Virginis Mariae concinnatum. Antwerp, Henricum Aertssium, [Henrich Aertssens], 1626 (converted by hand in 1628). Small in-8 bound in full contemporary brown calf on wooden boards, with bevelled boards cold-stamped with filleting and a scroll of foliage alternating with floral motifs, medallion in the centre stamped with a crucifixion(?). On the first board the letters "DGCAG" and the date 1632 stamped in gilt in two reserves; spine ribbed and decorated with cold fleurons, metal clasps with leather straps, red edges - binding worn - [8 ff.], 491 pp. and [3 pp.] Illustrated with 1°/ - an engraved title depicting St. Dominic planting a rosebush watered by the venerable Jacques Sprenger and the blessed Alanus [Alain de La Roche], whose two branches wind around a large rosary containing the title and wrap around 15 medallions representing the mysteries of the rosary, the whole receives the blessing of the Virgin Mary and the Infant Jesus, each offering a rosary - 2°/ - 15 intaglio engraved figures, numbered (from 1 to 76, except for the last) representing: the Annunciation (1), the Visitation (2), the Nativity (3), the Presentation in the Temple (7), Jesus and the Doctors of the Law (9), the Prayer in Gethsemane (52)i, the Scourging (59), the Crowning with Thorns (60), the Carrying of the Cross (62), the Crucifixion (63), the Resurrection (68), the Ascension (74), the Descent of the Holy Spirit (75), the Assumption (76), Mary Queen of Heaven. These 15 pll. refer to the 15 mysteries of the rosary represented in the title. 3°/ - 7 engraved intaglio figures, 2 of which are numbered: the death of Christ on the cross (66), life of Christ until baptism (10). The other 5 figures all refer to the Virgin Mary.
The numbered engravings are similar to those in "Vitae passionis et mortis Jesu Chriti mysteria" with the same numbering (3 - 7 - 9 - 10 - 52 - 59 - 60 - 62 - 63 - 66 - 68 - 74 - 75 - 76) and engraved by Boetium Adam Bolswert (1580-1633).
