Rey], 1770. 2 volumes in-8 bound in full contemporary calf, very ornate ribbed spines, title (burgundy) and appendix (black), blued edges - piercing and spidering to boards, very fresh inside - [6 ff.], 370 pp. ; [2 ff.], 412 pp. First edition of the most radical of Baron d'Holbach's pamphlets, the bible of materialism. Copy of the first printing, with the comma behind "Londres", without the errata, nor the Preliminary Discourse of the first volume (This very rare xvi pp. notebook is also absent from the copy in the Arsenal library). This book was condemned by Parliament on 18 August 1770 to be burnt at the foot of the grand staircase of the palace.
