Description
[Desrochers, Étienne Jehandier]. - Factitious collection of 83 engraved portraits, taken from "Recueil de Portraits des personnes qui se sont distinguées tant dans les armes que dans les Belles Lettres et les Arts. Comme aussi la famille Royale de France, et autres Cours Etrangères". Paris, by the engraver, 1725. Small in-4 bound in full contemporary calf, spine ribbed and decorated with mute. Untitled - scattered spotting mainly at the edges.
The pieces in this collection are composed of engravings measuring 14.5 x 10 cm, the medallion portrait is accompanied by the name and titles of the person depicted, as well as a laudatory text in verse, presented in a cartouche, mostly composed by François Gascon.
At the head of this collection are 15 engravings by Herman Weyen, cut and pasted, depicting Christ, the Virgin Mary, St John the Baptist, St Paul and 11 apostles (missing Jude or Thaddée).
