Description
[Buffet, Maurice] - Three letters from Maurice Buffet, painter and stained glass artist, to Roger-Louis Pillet or Mrs Pillet, 1940-1960. - The first letter (1st June 1940) is addressed to Mrs Pillet while her husband is mobilised at the Argentan postal control. A casual comment... - The second (19 January 1960), when Buffet was living in Lèves, talks about his research into translating stained-glass windows into paint: "It's a pain in the arse, I know, but I'd really like to succeed. I've studied them like a musical symphony, trying to create a work of art... I'm very worried about this work. One day I think it's good, the next I think it's a mistake...". - The last one (14 November 1960). He seems to be preparing an exhibition with R.-L. Pillet, talks about his meeting with the former Queen of Italy who came to visit his studio, and discusses the difficulties his wife had in taking part in the Salon "Comparaisons" (which included Feugereux).
