Followed by Colonel Capper's Travels in India, through Egypt and the Great Desert by Suez and Basra, in 1779. Translated from the English, and accompanied by Notes on the original and the Geographical Maps. A Londres et se trouve à Paris, Chez Regnaut, 1786. 2 volumes in-8, contemporary marbled calf, arms on covers framed by triple gilt fillet, ornate smooth spines, marbled edges, top of first plate of second volume unstained, spines rubbed, ex-libris stamp on titles (numeral and motto "cur non") and on second volume illegible red stamp - xxiv, 486 pp., [1 f.] of errata, folding map (India) in frontispiece, small marginal tear; viii, 414 pp, [1 f.] of errata, folding map (routes used by the English to go to India). First French translation by Brissot de Warville, produced with the help of his wife Marie-Catherine-Félicité Dupont, a translator of English authors. The work consists of a series of letters dealing specifically with the English presence in India. A copy bearing the coat of arms of the Motier de La Fayette family, with its motto "Cur non?", which Gilbert Motier, Marquis de La Fayette, made famous during the American War of Independence, in which he was one of the heroes.
