[Lawson, John. - A New voyage to Carolina; containing the exact description and natural history of that country: together with the present state thereof and a journal of a thousand miles, travel'd thro' several nations of indians. Giving a particular account of their customs, manners, etc. by John Lawson, Gent. Surveyor General of North-Carolina. London, printed in the year 1709 or 1714]. Small in-4, bound in full modern vellum - title page missing, pierce p. 93 (burn), without the map or the plate with several animal figures - [2 ff.], 258 pp. Includes: a description of North Carolina - an outline of the customs of the Indians of this region with a dictionary in the Tuskeruro (Tuscaroras), Pampticough (Pamlico) and Woccon languages - the second charter granted by King Charles II to the proprietors of Carolina - a summary of the constitution of Carolina. It should be noted that Lawson's account of the Woccon people and language is the only written source we have, with a dictionary of around 143 words.
