Description
BOULANGER (Nicolas-Antoine) – Christianity Unveiled, or An Examination of the Principles and Effects of the Christian Religion. London, n.p., 1766; 8vo, XXVIII–295 pp., contemporary marbled full calf binding, spine decorated with five raised bands, painted edges, title label in green morocco. Nicolas-Antoine Boulanger is a pseudonym. The work was initially attributed to Voltaire, who identified Etienne-Noël Damilaville as the author, with a contribution from Diderot. A study by Rudolf Berthorn attributes the text to the Baron d’Holbach, author of *The System of Nature*. The book was printed in Nancy by Le Clerc; according to Barbier, it is thought to have been submitted to the printer by Jean-François de Saint-Lambert. See the excellent Wikipedia page, which is both bibliographical and critical.
