Description
FLEURY – The Customs of the Israelites and Christians. Paris, published by Jean Mariette, 1720; 12mo, 384 pp. + table of contents and approvals, contemporary full calf binding, spine with five raised bands, title label in red morocco, marbled edges. Claude Fleury was a lawyer, clergyman and historian active in the second half of the 17th century and the early 18th century. He was a protégé of Bossuet, and Louis XIV appointed him tutor to one of his illegitimate children, as well as assistant tutor to three of his grandchildren. He published numerous works on history, theology, law and pedagogy. Very good condition.
