Changuion, 1741; in-12, VI-487 + 580 pp., contemporary full marbled calf bindings, spined and decorated, painted edges. Both volumes. Jean de La Bruyère, a French moralist writer of the second half of the 17th century, famous for this unique work *Les Caractères*, which was published anonymously during the author’s lifetime and revised in almost every edition, was also tutor to the Duke of Condé and elected to the Académie Française in 1693. Good condition.
