Paris, published by Claude Jombert, 1718; in-12, X-414 pp. + table of contents, contemporary full calf bindings, 5-ribbed spines, title labels in red morocco, edges painted red. Both volumes. 1 folding plate. Abbé Edmé Mariotte was a French physicist and botanist, born around 1620 in Dijon and died on 12 May 1684 in Paris. He became a member of the first Paris Academy of Sciences in 1666. The first volume of the *Histoire et mémoires de l’Académie* (1733) contains several articles by Mariotte on a wide variety of subjects, such as the motion of fluids, the nature of colour, the notes of the trumpet, the barometer, the fall of bodies, ice, etc.
