MASENIO (Jacobo in Latin, Jacob Masen in French) – A Guide to a Pure, Pious and Perfect Life through Spiritual Exercises of Meditation and Scripture Reading. Trier, published by Christophe Wilhelm Reulandt, 1667; in-12, VI-572 pp. + table of contents, contemporary full vellum binding with stamping, spine with three raised bands, edges painted red. Numerous illustrations within the text. Jacob Masen, born in 1606 in Rheindahlen and died in 1681 in Cologne, was a German Jesuit priest, historian, playwright and theologian. It was in Cologne that he spent the greater part of his teaching career. He enjoyed great success. In addition to teaching, Father Masen wrote poetry and composed plays for the Jesuit theatre, led the Marian Congregation and carried out a wider apostolate as a preacher in Paderborn, Trier and Cologne itself. As a historian, he revised and rewrote the history of the city and diocese of Trier. He died in Cologne on 27 September 1681. A rare work printed in Trier.
