CASWELL (W.A.)]
La fontaine de Gargaphie, Fountains of Gargaphie, Paris, published by the author, 1985
A volume bound in solid blue morocco leather, with a star and wave motif on the front cover, a plain spine bearing the title and author’s name in a lighter shade of blue, in a slipcase: 118 pages.
Bilingual first edition, limited to 85 copies on BFK Rives paper. One of the 50 copies (no. 20) illustrated with four separate engravings, signed and numbered by the artists: a mezzotint by Toru Iwaya; a drypoint by Frans Pannekoek, a burin engraving by Paul Hickin and an etching by François Righi. Printed by Impressions Populaires in Paris, with layout by Daniel Anselme. The engravings were printed by the engravers René Tazé and Luc Moreau for the other three.
This copy is enhanced by two dedications from the author: the first, dated 1987, is a dedication to Isabelle Daguin: “En hôtage”; the second, dated 2000 (in somewhat shakier handwriting): “But now, my copy” indicates that the author had retrieved his book.
Part of the slipcase is missing. A very fine copy.
Included is the 1982 pre-publication copy, a limited edition of 60 numbered copies, produced for the ‘Pays fort rêvé’ exhibition at the Auberge de Dam-Pierre-En-crot in June and July 1982.
