MANUSCRIPT] ANONYMOUS] Based on *L’homme de cour* by Baltasar Gracián, translated and annotated by Sieur Amelot de la Houssaie, formerly secretary to the French embassy in Venice. New edition, Lyon: François Barbier, 1693. A substantial in-8 volume in full calfskin, entirely handwritten, reproducing Gracian’s text (32), 355 pages. A collection of aphorisms originally published in 1647. Dedication on the first few pages, undeciphered. Fluid and clearly legible handwriting. Red and black ink. Traces of damp; ink bleed-through making a few pages difficult to read. Rounded corners, split spine, missing sections on the spine.
