Description
[Manuscript]. Memories of Italy 1834. MANUSCRIPT of 280 pp., bound in one in-8 volume in fawn half-basane with corner pieces, plain spine with longitudinal decoration, marbled edges. Departure on 2 August (1834) from Geneva; ends on 25 September in Naples. Ex-dono inscription on the flyleaf: ‘Given by my dear mother as a memento of the reorganisation of the spiritual pharmacy / Sauternes, 18 July 1880’. A delightful read, this journey through Italy takes in all the major cities, exploring the roads and landscapes, and of course, the architecture, museums, etc. It appears to have been written by Mme de La Panouse and given to her daughter, who would marry the Baron de Damas a few years later. [See: François Hippolyte de Lapanouse (1762 – Ambialet 1832), who married Rose Delpuech de Labastide, a demoiselle de Saint-Cyr, in 1789. They had fourteen children, including Armandine Louise Marie de La Panouse (1827–1851), who married Maxence de Damas (1822–1887) in 1850].
