"ARCERE (Father Louis-Etienne). History of the City of La Rochelle and the Pays d’Aulnis, compiled from the original authors and sources and enriched with various maps. Paris, published by R-J Desbordes, 1756 and 1757. 2 volumes in-4, full fawn calfskin bindings, spined with decorative raised bands, red edges. Illustrated with 4 fold-out maps. First edition of this reference work on La Rochelle and the former province of Aunis. The illustrations include a map of the Aunis region featuring the ‘Isles of Ré, Oléron and neighbouring provinces’, drawn up in 1756 and engraved by Desbruslins, and three plans of La Rochelle from 1573, in 1758 and during the siege of 1628 by Herisset and Borde, as well as a header vignette engraved by Le Mire after Eisen and an initial, repeated twice."
