Paris, Société anonyme de publications périodiques, 1895, folio, the publisher’s red percaline, blind-stamped borders and gilt title on the front cover. A popular account of the French conquest of the Kingdom of Dahomey. This took place in two stages: the First Dahomey War, 21 February – 4 October 1890, which forced the young King Béhanzin to recognise the French protectorate; the Second Dahomey War, 4 July 1892 – 15 January 1894, which led to the king’s deposition and his deportation to Martinique.
