CLAUZEL (Marshal). Explanations. Paris, Ambroise Dupont, 1837. 8vo, in contemporary green half-basane, smooth spine decorated with gilt fillets. (light foxing). Written by Frédéric Soulé, this text presents a lengthy defence of Clauzel’s (1772–1842) second term as Governor-General of Algeria, from July 1835 to February 1837. He was relieved of his duties following the disaster of the retreat from Constantine in November 1836. 3 engraved maps on a fold-out sheet."
