Description
CONSIDÉRANT (Victor). *Destinée sociale*. Paris: Published by the Phalange and available from booksellers at the Palais-Royal, 1837 [subsequently: Published by the Phalange, 1838 for Volume II; and at the École Sociétaire bookshop, 1844 for Volume III]. 3 volumes bound together in 2 in-8 volumes, green half-calf, plain spine with decoration (contemporary binding).
First edition of volumes 2 and 3, both without any publication details. A major work by Victor Considérant (1808–1893), the principal populariser of Fourierist doctrine. It is adorned with a wood-engraved frontispiece based on a drawing by the author, depicting a phalansterie, and a plan of a phalansterie. ‘In the entire rich body of Phalansterian literature, there is no work of propaganda that can bear comparison with *Destinée sociale*. [...] In terms of order, logic, method, clarity and appeal, *Destinée sociale* meets every requirement one might expect of a work of this kind.” (Dommanget, Victor Considérant, p. 17).
Some signs of restoration to the binding, worn spines, a small watermark and scattered foxing. The 2nd and 3rd quires of Volume 2 are out of order.
