FONTANE (Marius). A Picturesque Journey Across the Isthmus of Suez. Paris: Paul Dupont, E. Lachaud, n.d. [1870]. Unbound copy; publisher’s binding in poor condition. The copy is nevertheless in very fresh condition, though unfortunately marred by a brown stain at the top corner of the volume of this superb edition, illustrated with a frontispiece portrait of Ferdinand de Lesseps on mounted laid paper, signed by the artist himself, a map and 25 watercolours from life by Riou, lithographed in colour by Eugène Cicéri.
