[NAPOLEON BONAPARTE – GENERALS]. A collection of handwritten documents relating to the Empire. 8 letters and a memorandum from the Jean-Marc Agotini collections, with their certificates. The collection is housed in paper folders within a blue half-percale portfolio with flaps, fastened with a blue silk cord.
. General Baron André de La BRUYERE (1768–1808). 2 autograph letters signed ‘in the roadstead of Toulon at HQ aboard the Indomptable, 8 Nivôse 13 and 9 Nivôse 13 (29 and 30 December 1804), to his brother in Montélimar, 3 and 1 pp. in-4. He had just been appointed to the expeditionary force sent to the West Indies.
. Cavalry General Count Jean de CANCLAUX (1740–1817). Autograph signed letter, Dijon, 7 Messidor 8 (26 June 1800), in his capacity as Inspector-General of Mounted Troops, to (the future) General Cavaignac, then Brigade Commander of the 10th Dragoons. ‘ Bonaparte is due to pass through Dijon on 30 June (…) (you must) be ready to appear before the First Consul upon his return from his victories …”. 2 pp. in-4.
. General Baron Jean ERNOUF (1753–1825). 2 signed letters, Strasbourg, 9 Nivôse 7 (29 December 1798) and Hornberg, 11 Germinal 7 (31 March 1799), to the (future) Marshal Soult. 1 and 2 pp., quarto. He sends him the letter from the Minister of War appointing his brother Pierre Benoit Soult to the rank of captain. And from Hornberg, he informs him of the new positions of the generals, inviting him to carry out reconnaissance of the roads and to take ‘whatever measures your wisdom may dictate’.
. General Count Mathieu Paul Louis de MONTMORENCY-LAVAL (1748–1809). Letter signed in Paris, 3 April 1786, to ‘My dear St-Paul’, 1 page, in-8. A member of the King’s Musketeers in 1764, he became a Captain in the Gendarmes d’ordonnance in 1808 and a Brigadier-General in 1809; he served in the Grande Armée and was subsequently appointed Governor of the Imperial Palace at Compiègne.
. General Count Jean RAPP (1771–1821). Document signed ‘Done at Danzig on 1 December 1813’, one page, in-4. It appoints Lieutenant Félix Reybaud as deputy to the General Staff of the 10th Corps.
. General Antoine DIECHE (1753–1811). Letter signed in Strasbourg on 29 Messidor II (17 July 1794), addressed to the Committee of Public Safety (2 pages, quarto), accompanying a 12-page folio-sized memorandum in Captain Frédéric LEMAIRE’s own hand: A plea on behalf of a ‘valuable’ Swiss man employed in the ‘secret section of the Army’.
