[PRISONS]. Set of 4 volumes: MONNIER (Henri). Les Bas-fonds de la société. Paris, (Jules Claye, 1862). In-8, brown morocco half-bound with corner pieces, ribbed spine, gilt head, untrimmed. (Lanscelin). Scattered foxing. An edition of 200 copies printed on laid paper. Partly original edition. It contains 8 pieces, the first three of which had already appeared in *Scènes populaires*. Monnier encountered difficulties in obtaining permission to have them printed. Permission was granted on condition that the book would be printed in a run of no more than 200 copies, that it would not be sold commercially, and that it would be distributed by the author himself (Vicaire, vol.
